Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Cusco and Cultural Acclimatization

Our Andean adventure begins with your arrival at Cusco airport, magical city and starting point for the best mountain bike tours in Peru. Our team will welcome you and transfer you comfortably to your hotel, located in the heart of the historic center.

This first day is designed exclusively for acclimatization. You’ll have the afternoon free to rest or take a light walk around the city, explore the traditional San Pedro Market, stroll through the cobblestone streets of the San Blas neighborhood and absorb the local energy that makes Cusco a unique place.

You’ll also have the necessary time to set up your bike with the support of our mechanical team and participate in a technical briefing with your MTB guide, where we’ll review the complete itinerary, safety recommendations and useful tips for pedaling at more than 3,000 meters altitude.

Maximum altitude: 3,400 m (11,155 ft)
Activities: Acclimatization, bike setup, technical briefing
Accommodation in Cusco: Ayni Cusco Hotel*** or similar.

Day 2 – Huayllarcocha & Yuncaypata: Cusco Classics to Get Started

After an energizing breakfast, at 8:00 a.m. we head to Huayllarcocha, a perfect spot to kick off this exciting bike adventure through Cusco. This warm-up route combines some of the most iconic local MTB trails, with spectacular panoramic views of the Cusco Andes and the entire city.

We begin the descent with natural flow: smooth curves, roots, small jumps and rock gardens that allow you to let loose with confidence from day one. We make a brief stop at the enigmatic Temple of the Moon, an Inca ceremonial center carved in stone, charged with mystical energy and history.

We continue with a more technical section with natural berms and fast sections before transferring to the Abra de Corao. From there we start the descent through the legendary Yuncaypata trail, one of the favorites among local and foreign bikers. This trail is a true classic of Cusco enduro: Inca stairs, challenging singletracks, technical curves, fast zones, rock gardens and sections surrounded by eucalyptus forests make it a complete and diverse experience.

At the end of the ride, we’ll head to a traditional restaurant to enjoy exquisite Peruvian gastronomy with a typical lunch that closes this first intense MTB day with a flourish.

Accumulated elevation: ~1,100 m (-3,608 ft)

We leave early in the morning heading to Lares, on a panoramic route that crosses the majestic Sacred Valley of the Incas. A beautiful way to start the day and connect with local culture.

We start the ride from 4,200 meters altitude (13,779 ft), on one of the most authentic descents of enduro in the Peruvian Andes. The Lares Inca Trail is an ancestral singletrack that offers a perfect combination of technique, history and landscape. Along the route you’ll find Inca stairs, river crossings, tight curves, loose sections and fluid segments known as “Inca Flow”.

During the route we’ll pedal alongside llama herds, pass by adobe houses, pre-Inca walls and paths used for centuries by Andean communities. This trail is not only challenging, but deeply enriching.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
About the 7-Day Enduro MTB Tour in Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu

1. Is this tour suitable for beginners?

No. This 7-day tour is exclusively designed for experienced mountain bikers familiar with enduro and technical singletracks. Riders must be confident on loose rocks, Inca stairs, tight switchbacks, uneven paths, and abrupt terrain changes.

2. What kind of bike and protective gear is included?

We provide a high-end full suspension bike (rental), suitable for enduro (Santa Cruz, Commencal, or a similar brand). A certified helmet and gloves are also included, and if requested in advance, we can provide knee pads and extra protection at no additional cost.

3. How much do we ride each day?

On average, you’ll ride between 2 to 4 hours per day, with daily descents reaching up to 1,700 m of accumulated drop. Some days are more cultural, like Machu Picchu, while others are more technical, such as Lares or Maras.

4. What kind of terrain will we encounter during the tour?

You’ll ride through a variety of surfaces: Inca trails, loose gravel, stair sets, natural berms, farm paths, forest crossings, river sections, and fast downhills. It’s a tour rich in both technical challenges and cultural value.

5. What type of accommodation is included?

The package includes 6 nights in carefully selected 3-star hotels: 4 in Cusco, 1 in Ollantaytambo, and 1 in Aguas Calientes. All include breakfast, good location, Wi-Fi, and comfortable spaces for your rest.

6. What happens if I have an issue with the bike?

We provide mechanical support throughout the tour. Our technician travels with the group and can handle quick repairs. We also carry replacement bikes in case of major issues (subject to availability).

7. Is Machu Picchu included?

Yes. The tour includes the train journey, entrance tickets, and a full guided visit of approximately 2 hours through Machu Picchu, followed by free time to explore on your own after the main tour.

8. What is the altitude like and how do I acclimatize?

The tour starts in Cusco at 3,400 m and reaches altitudes over 4,200 m. That’s why the first day is a cultural acclimatization day with no intense biking. We recommend arriving at least one day before the tour and staying well hydrated throughout.

9. What is the best time of year for this tour?

April to October is ideal due to dry weather and stable trails. From November to March, rain is more frequent, which can make paths more technical and slippery, although we still operate the tour with proper gear.

10. How can I book this tour?

You can book directly through this website using the reservation button or by contacting us via WhatsApp or email. We recommend booking at least three months in advance to ensure availability of bikes, hotels, and especially your Machu Picchu entrance ticket.
