FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About the Lares Inca Trail MTB Tour

1. What type of rider is this tour for?

This tour is designed for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers with experience in technical terrain. Riders should be confident navigating switchbacks, stone steps, and rock gardens. It’s not suitable for beginners.

2. What kind of bike and protective gear is included?

The full package includes a dual suspension enduro or downhill bike (Commencal, Specialized, etc.), full-face helmet, elbow and knee pads, gloves, and an optional chest protector. All gear is cleaned and maintained after every ride.

3. Can I use my own bike and gear?

Yes. You can opt for the tour-only option, which includes transport, guiding, tech assistance, and snacks. Just make sure your bike is in good mechanical condition and your gear is suitable for technical downhill terrain.

4. How technical is the trail?

The trail includes Inca stairs, natural drops, tight switchbacks, and technical rock gardens. Some sections are progressive and flowy (“Inca Flow”), while others demand precision and control. Riders should be ready to dismount when necessary.

5. What is 'Inca Flow' and why is it unique?

“Inca Flow” refers to sections of the trail that naturally combine rhythm, speed, and historic stone-built terrain. Unlike artificial bike parks, this flow emerges from ancient Inca paths and natural formations — offering a ride you won’t find anywhere else.

6. What altitudes are involved in the tour?

The ride starts at 4,214 meters above sea level and descends to around 3,000 meters. You’ll need to be acclimatized to Cusco’s altitude (3,400 m.a.s.l.) before doing this ride to avoid altitude sickness.

7. How do I book the tour and what's the payment process?

You can book directly through our website or by contacting our reservations team. A deposit is required to confirm your spot, and the balance can be paid before the ride. Payment options include credit card, PayPal, or bank transfer.

8. Is lunch included in the price?

Lunch is not included. We stop at a traditional restaurant in the Sacred Valley where you can order local dishes like grilled trout, lomo saltado, or quinoa soup. A light snack or box lunch is provided during the ride.

9. What is the weather like during the ride?

From April to October, conditions are mostly dry and sunny — ideal for biking. November to March is the rainy season, and while we still operate, trails may be muddy and slippery. Always bring waterproof clothing just in case.

10. What should I bring for this tour?

We recommend a thermal and waterproof jacket, technical biking clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, GoPro or camera (optional), and any personal medications. If you bring your own gloves or hydration pack, let us know.

11. Are there restrooms or water points during the ride?

There are no official restrooms along the trail. Riders must use natural areas respectfully. We provide a break before and after the ride for bathroom stops. Please bring your own water or refill before departure.

12. What else can I explore near Lares or the Sacred Valley?

Lares is known for its hot springs, traditional weaving communities, and stunning highland views. After your ride, you can visit local villages,
