Cusco - the empire of the inca culture

The Cusco word it comes from the Quechua word QOSQO that means "Center or navel of the world". This department is located in the southwest zone of Peru, located on 3360m. Cusco city was founded on the Huatanay valley of centuries XI and XII for many tribes of race and quechua language, coming from the plateau of the lake Titicaca, led by the first Inca named Manco Capac.

Cusco was the sacred city and capital of the Tahuantinsuyo, was the center of government of four extensive regions of the fabulous old empire, including great part of Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, getting to be the greatest empire of the South Hemisphere. Its society was example of political organization–social, great knowledge in architecture, engineering, metallurgy, hydraulics, medicine, agriculture, etc. It has three beautiful snow-covered mountain range systems that exceed the 6 thousand meters of height, where cultural, scientific and sport activities are fulfilled. Also it has the most important Amazon rain forest region with natural reserve of fauna and flora. March twenty third of 1534, Francisco Pizarro founded on the city of the Cusco a Spanish city, turning an example of Andean and catholic cultural fusion.
