Chachani Downhill is for all mountain biking lovers, Peru has one of the largest networks of Inca remains and following the innumerable trails that connect with the most amazing sites in the Cusco, Puno, Nasca, Lima, Arequipa, Paracas, passing through remote villages out of the reach of motorised vehicles, and having the chance to get know local Andean communities and learn their amazing life style. Mountain Biking is a relatively new sport in Peru, but new routes are rapidly being opened up, many of which offer excellent opportunities to ride.
Chachani downhill dedicated for adventurous bikers. We are best undertaken and an experienced tour operator providing professional guides and the best available MT bike equipment as well as the necessary supporting 4WD vehicles.
We have cycle trips from 1 up to more days designed to get the most out of your holiday. Beginning in the high Andes and descending into the Amazon jungle, we cycle from altitudes of 5000m to 600m. Biking on the single tracks, dirt roads, humid lands, frigid and warm climates, camping or spending in the local’s family houses.

Itinerary

At 7am pick-up from hotel and drive in a four wheel drive for approximately three hours for the sector of CABRERIAS between MISTI and CHACHANI Mountains. We will stop in many places where you can take pictures of the landscape and visit the national reserve of SALINAS Y AGUADA BLANCA. Amazing view of conical form of Misti north face.
At 10am we arrive at AZUFRERO (5000m). Here we conduct a brief safety orientation regarding the gears and brakes of our mountain bikes, the protective equipment, and a descripton of the route down.

First Part

1000m drop on a nice zig zag compact road. This is stony and sandy with closed curves and sloped construction for a distance of 10 kilometers. It is recommended to go down at 10 - 15 KPH for those with less mountian biking experience.

Second Part

The motly level part called CABALLO MUERTO (Dead Horse) over 4000m. Here we ride our bikes 16 kilometers going bit by bit up to 4200m. At three times, the road is compact earth, the rest is sandy.

Third Part

This final part is the longest in distance with an elevation change of 2000m. We descend from the 4200m to AREQUIPA in approximately 2 hours. Following a paved road with minimal traffic, we connect with Charcani road, accelerating to a good speed between 40 - 45 KPH on the bikes.
At 3 - 4pm entering the city, our last stop is at Mirador de Carmen Alto, where we end our adventure. You will then be taken back to your hotel, ending our trip.

Rain Season

December to March. Some days are with blue sky permiting to cycle this zone.

Best Time For Cycle

After rain season (April to June) the mountains are completely covered with snow and the slops are cover with new vegetation making more nice for pictures.

Advice For Bikers

Normal physical conditions and summer clothes, bikers require good acclimatization over 4000m. One day before all the bikers will have meeting with the mountain bike guide at our office or in the hotel, who will give a BRIEFING about this bike trip and also you can check the quality of bikes and gear will be used on this trip.

What You Need To Bring/Carry

  4. One complete change of clothing
  5. Water bottle
  6. Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
  7. Sun block (sun protection cream)
  8. Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
  9. Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc,
  10. Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries
  11. Sunglasses.
